Its mission is to ensure that all youth, regardless of background or economic position, can benefi t from the positive aspects of being a youth athlete. Its programming instills positive messages and characteristics in participants through emphasizing such concepts as setting and achieving goals, teamwork, determination, leadership, perseverance, dealing positively with adversity and much more. It creates a positive atmosphere with strong role models that allow youths an alternative to violence, gangs and other negative and self-destructive activities. Most importantly, the program helps develop skills in participants that allow them to go to college on scholarship. This creates opportunities that otherwise would not be available to them.
