Coach Kay was a three sport athlete at Maine East High School, earning varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball. During his senior year, Kay earned All-Conference recognition while helping the Blue Demons earn their first CSL title in 35 years. Kay then spent two years at Harper College before attending Quincy University.

Kay's professional career began in 2007, playing for the Oregon Wave and Yamhill Highflyers of the IBL. In 2010 Kay played for the Quebec Kebs of the PBL and in 2011 he moved on to play for the Battle Creek Knights of the IBA. Kay has been coaching youth basketball for more than eight years.
